Donald Trump has warned that he could destroy Iran’s key infrastructure, including power stations, oil fields, desalination facilities, and Kharg Island, if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened immediately.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the U.S. is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as a more reasonable regime to end the conflict but cautioned that military action would follow if no agreement were reached soon.
He stated that while significant progress has been made and a deal is likely, failure to quickly reopen the strait would lead the U.S. to end its “stay” in Iran by targeting and completely destroying major energy and water facilities, which he said had so far been intentionally spared.
Separately, a large fire broke out at an Israeli oil refinery after a missile strike earlier today. Video shared by Israeli media shows flames rising from the Bazan refinery in Haifa, a site that has been targeted before during the conflict.
Channel 12 News reports that the attack was carried out by Iran and Hezbollah, the Lebanese armed group active in southern Lebanon. However, Israeli firefighters said the fire started when a fuel tanker was struck by debris following a missile interception.
